Racked directly to barrel after whole-bunch pressing, this wine is the purest expression of TarraWarra Chardonnay. Made without yeast or acid addition, the fruit batches from each block are kept entirely separate in barrel over the 10 months in oak. It is crossflow filtered without fining before bottling at the Estate.
Aromas of citrus fruits, cashews and white flowers reflect the season, the palate balanced between finesse, length and creamy texture. The acid line drives through with a persistent and long finish.
A wine to drink and enjoy now or cellar for 10 or more years.
The heritage blocks of C and D have a north-west aspect and represent a perfect site for Chardonnay. The three blocks have deep soils and a cool micro-climate.
2019 was an excellent vintage in the Yarra Valley. A slightly warmer season characterised by intermittent heat spikes followed by cool changes. February started with cooler conditions, a subsequent week of warmer weather accelerated ripening and frantic picking ensued. The fruit was in excellent condition at harvest. Yields were 7 tonnes per hectare and 12.0 baume.
