The palate is finely layered opening with fleshy pure fruit, a silky texture, fine tannins and an elegant palate. It has wonderful persistence of flavour and excellent potential for long term cellaring.
2017 was a later and cooler year in the Yarra Valley. The cold temperatures that persisted through Spring slowed fruit development, while January and February brought perfect ripening conditions, with temperatures in the mid to high 20’s, and cool nights aiding retention of acid and fine flavour development. These blocks were harvested 2 weeks later than 2016.
H-Block is the backbone of the Reserve Pinot Noir blend. At 34 years of age, this is one of our icon sites. It consistently produces our highest quality Pinot Noir, the soil is naturally low yielding giving optimum vine balance. I block was planted in 1989, as a clonal trial block. The D5V12 adds another dimension to the Reserve Pinot Noir.
2017 was evidently a terrific year for Tarrawarra. The aromas evoke chocolate, darker fruits and smoky oak; the wine has density, richness and abundant tannins. It unfolds with time in the glass, and will reward both cellaring and decanting. Dec/Jan 2020 Issue

Fruit off the H & I blocks gives it a crimson-ruby hue; overall, a stylish and beautifully balanced wine with everything neatly in place. The right amount of cherry fruit, spice, supple yet savoury tannins, and a freshness to the acidity that lasts to the very end. An elegant pinot, yet has a depth of flavour.

This is an opulent pinot noir showing dark cherry characteristics with a hint of dried herbs. The palate is of impressive length and the tannins are supremely fine. October 2019
