The fruit is hand-picked and chilled, then destemmed into small open top fermenters. Each block is picked, made and kept separate for the duration of the maturation process. This is the first time we have made a single block Q Block Pinot Noir. A perfumed aroma of mushrooms, raspberries, and earthy notes with a hint of oak.
The palate opens with pure fruit, with the mushroom and spice flavours coming through. There’s lovely tannins running the length of the palate, with the oak and acid in harmony.
2015 was an ideal year for the Yarra Valley, warm days and cool nights during ripening allowed for fine flavour development and retention of acid. Yields were around 7 tonnes per hectare. The fruit was in perfect condition at harvest.
The north-facing Q Block was planted in 1995 to D5V12 clone of Pinot Noir. This clone, originally from Davis University in California, is notable for its generous fruit profile. We’ve found a vine age of 15 years is necessary before it reaches its full potential..
