The combination of site, vintage and clonal selection has produced a wine which epitomises cool climate Shiraz.
A co-ferment of the Shiraz with two percent Roussanne gives a lifted brambly perfume to the 2015 wine. The palate has flesh and structure with lovely definition. This wine will age well for at least 10 years.
The site of this block is ideally suited to Shiraz. 2015 was an excellent vintage in the Yarra Valley. Ideal conditions persisted throughout the growing season, with temperatures hovering in the mid to high twenties from veraison to harvest. Cool nights and mild days gave perfect ripening conditions, with the fruit in perfect condition at harvest.
The shallow soils, free drainage and high elevation of J Block made this the perfect site for Shiraz vines. The soils include lean granite, loam and clay. North-west facing block.
