Racked directly to barrel after whole-bunch pressing, this wine is the purest expression of TarraWarra Chardonnay. Made without yeast or acid addition, the fruit batches from each block are kept entirely separate in barrel over the 10 months in oak. It is crossflow filtered without fining before bottling at the Estate.
A wine of very fine complexity it displays fig and white peach aromas. It has the length that is the hallmark of our Chardonnay. A wine to drink and enjoy now or cellar for 10 or more years.
The heritage blocks of B and C have a north-west aspect and represent a perfect site for Chardonnay. The two blocks have deep soils and a cool micro-climate.
2014 was one of the warmer years in the Yarra Valley, although cool nights during ripening allowed for retention of acid and fine flavor development. Yields were much lower than normal, with these older vines yielding 4.5 tonnes per hectare. Precise canopy management resulted in fruit in perfect condition at harvest.
